India Starts the Production of Skoda Rapid Sedan

Skoda has begun production in india of the new compact sedan, which is to be called the Rapid. The car will be sold there by the end of the year, and will sit in the model range between the Fabia and Octabia.

“India is the first market in which we will introduce the new Rapid. It highlights the significance of that country for our company,” emphasizes the Chairman of the Board of SKODA, Winfried Vahland.

“We want to step on the pedal all over the world in the coming years. In order to do so, we will clearly increase our activities outside of Europe. In this context, the Indian market plays a central role, because, besides China and Russia, it is among the markets with the greatest potential. The new Rapid is the right car at the right time for these growth markets. It is an important step on our growth path for the coming years,” he added.

The sedan offers room for five passengers and a boot with a capacity of 500 liters. It’s being marketed as a car of the whole family, with room enough for long drives and compact dimensions for city living.

We expect to see this car getting the full engine range from Skoda when it reaches Europe, but in India, it’s only available with one petrol and one diesel engine, each available with either manual or automatic gearboxes. The naturally aspirated 1.6-liter puts 103 hp, which is also the output of the 1.6 TDI with common rail technology.
