Natasimha Nandamuri Balakrishna is once again proved as no one is substitute to him for doing mythological rolls in this generation...
The names of Bapu, Ramana, Balakrishna, Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Ilayaraja are sufficient to arouse interest in a film. The talented team has come up with the mythological film Sri Rama Rajyam. Let us see how the final output has come out.
Story:
The director has done a good job by starting the film with the arrival of Rama and Sita to Ayodhya after finishing Ravan in Lanka. Rama is now the king of Ayodhya. Under his rule the people are happy and prosperous. Just when everything seems to be going fine, a comment by a washer man makes Rama to send Sita away into the forest. From here the real story of Sri Rama Rajyam begins. Sita is given shelter by Sage Valmiki. He keeps her identity a secret and looks after her as his own daughter. Sita gives birth to Lava and Kusha. Valmiki imparts knowledge to them and also teaches them how to use weapons (Asrtha Vidhya). They also study Ramayana and Valmiki asks them to preach the story across the length and breadth of Ayodhya. At this juncture, Rama plans to conduct Ashwamedha Yagnam for the welfare of the people. What happens next should be seen on-screen.
Performance:
Balakrishna comes up with a great performance. We’ve already seen in movies like Bhairava Dweepam, etc. Putting aside all his commercial scripts and routine dialogues, it’s really refreshing to see Balayya in devotional avatar. After Legend NTR, only Balakrishna can match the looks of Lord Rama or any mythological rolls. Balakrishna's performance has been outstanding and classic. He carries the role with the necessary poise, dignity and intensity. Nayanatara as Sita is the perfect choice. She conveys emotions through her eyes beautifully. She is an asset to the film. ANR as sage Valmiki has done an excellent job. Srikanth as Lakshman is okay. KR Vijaya, Murali Mohan, Roja, Brahmanandam and others appear in brief roles and do their job as per the requirements of the script. The two children, who play the role of Lava and Kusha, are cute and suit their characters aptly.
Technicalities:
Maestro Ilayaraja is a huge asset to the movie. His music and RR has become an instant chart buster and there has been a tremendous response to the audio. PRK Raju’s cinematography is decent while art director Ravindra set design is natural. National Award winner Kamal Kannan (of Magadheera) has done a great job in terms of Visual Effects. They almost rflect naturality.Positive:
Balayya Performance.
Good sets and costumes.
Good direction and screenplay.
Excellent music, graphics and cinematography.
Negative:
There are not many negatives in the film. There are a few minor blemishes but they can be overlooked. The film has a run length of nearly three hours but still it does not bore you at any point of time.
Analysis:
Sri Rama Rajyam is a feel good film that showcases our ancient culture, heritage and values. The way Bapu managed to make the film into a visual and musical delight is extraordinary. Sri Rama Rajyam has come at a right time and it is hoped that many such films will follow.
Alright! Let’s take a break from all commercially spamming movies and head the mythic way - Sri Rama Rajyam movie is a typical Bapu’s calligraphy as the legendary director comes with a mythological treat. The best part of Sree Rama Rajyam movie is that the casting just cannot get any better. Balakrishna looks excellent and perfect as Rama. Nayanathara looks perfect as Sita and Akkineni Nageswara Rao is apt for Valmiki.
Director Bapu once again takes us back to the late 70’s and 80’s in terms of storytelling (at least for some time). Although, it is a holy (known) script, still, it has to be dealt very carefully and Bapu once again showcases an anecdote in a deferential way. In fact, the way he chose to narrate the story looks very natural and gifted.
Verdict:
Sri Rama Rajyam has many positive things and it is a film that can give you an enriching experience while entertaining you in good measure. We must thank Bapu, Yelamnchali Sai Baba, Mullapudi, Ilayaraja, Balakrishna, ANR and Nayanatara for giving us a wonderful film.
